Antonovs at Aviodrome
[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Friday 12 August the Aviodrome museum at Lelystad airport was visited by a group of Antonov An-2 biplanes. In total 12 An-2’s visited the Netherlands and it was originally the intention to fly all twelve planes from Teuge airfield to Lelystad. Unfortunately the weather was not very favourable with a stationary low pressure area over the middle of our country with a very low cloud base and occasional drizzle. This caused a great delay in the departure from Teuge. Originally the Antonovs were scheduled at 12:00 h, but finally only four arrived at 15:45 h.
An hour later they were followed by another four. Aviodrome museum normally closes at 17:00 h but the museum management decided to keep it open longer to give the visitors enough time to see the planes.
Although the Antonov is not an extremely rare sight in the European airspace, it is a rare occasion to see so many of them together! In spite of less perfect light conditions, it still was possible to make good photo’s!!!
