Zuikaku class deck Eduard 1/48
Zuikaku aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her planes took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor that formally brought the United States into the Pacific War, and she fought in several of the most important naval battles of the war, finally being sunk in the battle off Cape Engaño. One of six carriers to participate in the Pearl Harbor attack, Zuikaku was the last of the six to be sunk in the war (four in the Battle of Midway and Shōkaku in the Battle of the Philippine Sea).
Eduard kit 8803 of Japan navy carrier deck comes packed in clear bag, and contains one scale model pad molded in black plastic and one clear sprue containing 4 clear parts for lights on deck. Nice illustration is also provided but no information how to paint the deck. Deck is really beautifully designed with high level of details and no flash is present. You really need only to remove clear arts from the sprue and for the rest of the work, you will need paints and your favorite method of painting the scale models.
I started my work on the carrier deck with painting White lines on the deck which were then masked with tape. Next step was to paint the elevator part of the deck, and I used Revell 47 Grey paint for it with a few drops of Steel color just enough to get that metallic look. After it was dry I masked the elevator and painted the rest of the deck with Model Master Wood color. After a few coats of Klear I made a mix of raw umber and burnt sienna artistic colors and applied wash. When all my weathering was done I sprayed a final semi gloss coat of Model Master acrylic varnish.
I truly enjoyed working on this pad, it will really look great once I finish my Val waiting in the stash. Presenting scale models on the right way is really important and this Eduard pad is outstanding. This pad really adds to realistic look of scale model so I can highly recommend this pad. This is very helpful. I have only just re-started modelling – It would be really good to see how you weathered – is that possible – There are lots of videos on aircraft modelling tips but this is the only tutorial I found on decks – more please !! Regards Gavin
