Fokker Dr.I Eduard kit 1136

Decals are perfectly printed but have some minor errors. Type letter DR.I on the original plane is written in the style where the I is a little bit smaller then the rest of the DR letters and on decals is of the equal size. All you have to do is to trim this decal before place it on the kit. For the F.I model decals are perfect but not the way how to apply suggested by Eduard. Kit include decals for the sample plane 102/17 and this plane for example did not use Axial logo stamp on the propeller. So you don’t have to use it too. Also you don’t need to use decals for the wheels and for the underside of wings as well there is no evidence for the same on the archive images. On the main wing strut you don’t have to use decals with serials and letters but only decals with 1729. But most visible detail is the square background for the underwing cross on the lower wing. This area is presented as white and for this purpose is provided white decal. No need to use it at all as well this area is in the natural linen color. So paint this section in cream and the rest of the underside in the light blue color. Note that I have used for this area light cream color and I would like to note that one of the world top expert about this airplane, Terry Phillips, state that the same color of fabric is very pale. So please consider this info when you build this kit and use proper color, lighter then my color on image.

Also there have to be noted some minor problems with the undercarriage leg so some care have to be made during the strut assembly with the axle wing. Maybe not a great problem but maybe top wing access panel could be made as the raised frame. The same is present as relief panel line. Detail of interest is the on the underside of the top wing are two panels which is good represent but they have to be removed if you are going to made F.I model.

In overall view this kit is the excellent products and without doubt it will find it destination in the show cases of many modelers. Very precise made, with many of features and details never included before on any other kits this is most accurate kit of this plane ever and best at all- easy to build!

Special thanks to the Terry Phillips and Stephen Lawson for their invaluable help in this model project.

  1. Greetings Srecko. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed thoroughly your build of this kit. I will be reviewing the “Special” (1136X) issue of this kit which includes another plastic set of sprues for a second Fokker Dr.I . At any rate I will share with you later how that comes along. All my best regards and thanks agian from a great build. Model On!
