it's one of my favorite jet fighter the first squadron (1st Fighter Group) in the WWII had operating base at Lesina Airfield, Italy

American WW-II air ace Richard Bong was killed on August 6, 1945 in an early type P-80 at take off near Burbank, California. Flying a Lockheed P-38 Lightning Bong shot down 40 Japanes planes .

It is true, after that accident whole fleet of P-80 was grounded. Any image of the Bong plane?
