No. 16 Squadron was an Army Co-operation unit. Which moved to France in April 1940. After only nine days of fighting, the unit was withdrawn to Britain.
For the next three years the squadron operated as a tactical reconnaissance squadron, first around the UK coast line, look for the possible German attacks. In June 1943, the squadron was equipped with Mustang I's.
In September 1944 the squadron became part of the Second Tactical Air Force (2 TAF) and moved to Belgium and completed its service at Eindhoven, in Holland.
