This will not be easy at all :-kr :-wall :-help
-
really nice subject to do No.1 ;) :-wave
-
And hard in same time :(
-
do you have enough information about this aircraft?
-
I miss frame diagrams, only have basic blueprints copy and some over hundred of images. Just completed selection of images for work, they shown all surface details but will be hard in some cases to find precise position.
-
I set up basic shapes... much time is sent on images analyze before any point is made.
-
Interesting bird! Go forward mate! :-clap :-flo
-
do you think that the book "PBM Mariner in Action" can help? ;)
cheers :-wave
-
I have it mate, thank you :-ok
-
This is the right stuff: Dutch MLD colours!
Just for fun at 1500 pixels width..........
-
Radar above is interesting, I will add also this option for illustration.
-
Bitter fight... panels will be so hard to do and I will need few days to complete only panels.
-
:-dal :-dal :-dal
-
Start work with rivets...
-
:-ok
-
Still fight with rivets :-wall
-
Huge machine!!
-
Yes, really big one with many small details on its construction (this will be subject of following work on profile layout). Now the rivets are completed and will go to full adopt to version I plan to do, there is variation even with types with same designations.
-
Glad to see that you finish rivets!! :-clap
-
Now work on shadows, decide to skip small details in the moment, this will be add later. What is not visible in this image is that I have split and separated crew cockpit transparencies from gun portion transparencies, it is now better for set up in future art work.
-
Good job!
-
Thank you :)) Progress on drop shadows and gun turrets...
-
Now i can see fast progress! :-tri
-
And again slow progress :-dal
-
Great progress!
It's interesting that you are doing the PBM-5A version first, as this happens to be the only intact version still in existence (at least above water). The survivor is being slowly restored at Pima Air Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
The Netherlands ended up with almost half of the entire production of the amphibious version, 15 of the 36 built (and 4 others converted later from true seaplanes).
Can't wait to see the final product, and thanks too to Nico for the photo!
-
Thanks for info mate :-clap This four converted samples, how they differ from original with wheels?
From my side few more updates...
-
Great job! :)
-
First one :)
-
Thanks for info mate :-clap This four converted samples, how they differ from original with wheels?
I don't have any exact information on the four conversions, No.1, but I'd assume they looked much like the production amphibians.
I really must go through my files to find a couple of pictures I took of the lone survivor in 1989. It looks much better today than it did then!
-
Looks excellent!! :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Aha! I found my photos taken of the last PBM-5A in 1989. These were taken at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, Arizona. Sorry about the picture quality. The airplane has been updated a lot since these were taken.

:-tri Extra!! :-jump :-clap

I don't have any exact information on the four conversions, No.1, but I'd assume they looked much like the production amphibians.
You'll never find the information - rest assured, there were NO conversions of four planes, just the prototype and further production run of 36 samples.
-
I wondered about the "conversions" when I read that information. I've got a very old U.S. Military Aircraft reference book that mentions this idea but without Bureau Numbers or other evidence. Thanks for clarifying this!
-
I continue today work on painting and here you are steps... Basic shapes are painted ;)
