Operation Bat 21
-
Excellent! :-obey
-
Thank you :))
-
I love it!
I certainly am glad I never had to wipe down the fuselage on one of these things. It's hard to believe even a 3350 could leak that much oil....
-
Hahaha- no leaks, no oil ;)
-
Hello, :-salut
Some engines were studied... to leak !
Jicehem :-wave
-
Hahaha :)

Skyraider had the same engine as the Lockheed Constellation. We have one at the Aviodrome museum that is kept more or less in an airworthy condition although the engines have not run since 2009. Propellers are turned from time to time; seems to be necessary and I can assure it is dripping oil from all four engines and there are flat steel containers lying under each engine to collect the spilled oil. Indeed: when not dripping something is wrong!
-
I've worked on a couple of 3350s and there is absolutely no end to the places they can leak. There are a few warbird operators that can keep them from leaking too much, but it takes a lot of hard work and "staying ahead" of the normal places they like to leak from.
Nico, we had 55 gallon barrels cut in half longitudinally to fit under the engines of the last B-17 I worked on. If the airplane sat for long periods those "catch basins" would eventually end up with several gallons in them!

One French machine :)
