« on: January 12, 2021, 05:26:08 PM »
One f the giants originated in WW2, not much known about it and it will be real challenge to make it good and detailed. This is very start, with several basic shapes done ;)

This is one of my favorite airplanes! Really it wasn't successful in the original concept but for some reason the AAF continued developing it.

About the only thing left of the entire B-32 production is one outer wing panel that is part of a monument/memorial in Southern California and a couple of the nose and tail ball turrets. When the war ended the AAF got rid of the B-32s pretty quickly, sending the survivors either to Kingman or Walnut Ridge for scrapping. There must be some remains out in the Pacific since a couple of them crashed during the final days of the war.

Also, I started a 1/48 Dominator project back when I was a contest modeler. I planned to use a Monogram B-24 as inspiration but the airplane would have been mostly scratch-built. Several months after I started collecting components to build mine I went to a contest and someone had built a beautiful 1/48 B-32, so mine went into semi-permanent hibernation.......

This is the Dominator in full color, showing the first production model with the final enlarged vertical tail.
It was a fail-safe project for a long-range heavy bomber in case the B-29 Superfortress would run into insolvable problems.
The B-29 did not fail; in spite of a number of teething problems and with large-scale production of the B-29 only a relative small number of B-32's was built.
The type was just in time operational to be used on a small scale during the last months of the war against Japan.

Moving along nicely!

Although I love the B-32 myself, it really is an ugly duckling compared to the B-29, isn't it!?
