Need Help with tutorial
« on: April 30, 2009, 02:59:17 AM »
Hi All!

I have been working on the tutorial 109 off and on for about a year. Every time I start to get close to understanding what I am doing I end up getting busy with work or family and go months without touching it, then I have to start over.

There are a few problems that I have each time and I thought i would bring them here.

My first question is, when I use the magic wand to select the aircraft, I have 2 areas that for some reason do not get included, a section on the underside of the engine and the tire. What do I need to do to get them included with the rest of the mask?

I am determined to finish it this time so I am grateful for any help.

To regret that was old and fast method I have described above. More like quick guide. Magic wand is not good as well it does not make so precise selection. It select a range of similar colors and selection edge are not sharp. From my side I will change parts of the tutorial above and give better describe about the ultimate tool- Pen tool.

Do you know how to use Pen tool?

Hi No.1!

I am trying to remember an instance where I have used the Pen tool and cannot think of one, so I guess I don't know how to use. Definately don't know how to use it in place of the magic wand.

I am debating whether I should do the 109 in the markings that you have in the tutorial or if I should do it in the colours of Ed Russell's 109E which is only a few kms from my house. I am wondering whether I would learn more replicating what you have done or modifying it, any thoughts?

Okay, so I have was able to add the missing parts to my mask and have taken it a couple of steps farther. I decided to do the 109E in the photo from my last post.

I've been using a lot of layers for various areas of the plane and discovered the magnetic lasso tool which has worked well for me.

Here is where I am at now, so the next question I have to the experts in this forum is, am I on the right track?  My plan is to finish the paint scheme and then add the decals, what do you think?

Look good to me. Only I make shapes with aircraft elements but your way can also work. Only I should note that you need not Lasso at all.

Cheers ;)
