Really? Prop and spinner as well? How can I obtain them?

It's not time, it's the building work in the house!

Thanks! Scott's kit has some very useful views of the undercarriage too. I think it should turn out ok, all I really need is a B-17 engine in 1:72. I might try using the vacform propellor, although I'm sure I have something somewhere that is suitable. I'm only unsure about the outlet in front of the lower wing, is it just hollow or are there a few exhaust pipes?

Hello everyone!

Here's the dimunitive vacform of this little-known fighter, as described in the aircraft history section. It took about 40 mins to get this far using 80 grade for basic sanding and 400 grade for smoothing. Not bad, and the pictures show how it looks in general, just taped together.

It needs an engine, one from a B-17 will do, prop and undercarriage, plus a cockpit floor and some detailing, instrument panel etc.

Some of the kit parts are thinly drawn, especially the edges of the fuselage, but a bit of filler and plastic scrap should cure it. The cowling will keep the shape circular. It actually has quite nice surface detail, which, once primed, you'll probably see more of :)

There are a choice of schemes, but the best-known are the Dutch examples flown in Java against the Japanese. They were, like the rest of the Allied air units, wiped out. So, assuming I can find decals, Dutch it will be. The Chinese had them as well.

This and the Seafire I've mentioned, are only at the basic stage, so these threads might take a while. Hopefully they'll be good.

I'm sure decals won't be a problem. I have the ICM F-4, and it's great, but the Zvezda one is better. I'm not sure if the cowling panels are a great fit with the engine installed, but the engine is nice in it's own right. Of course, you could buy 3 and make a Bf109G-0 :)

Scott, if you buy 2 you can make an F-4 by adding two thin reinforcing strips at the tail join! It rewards the patient builder, but it's the best out there, and it has the correct smooth upperwing panels.

You could do a Hungarian one :)

There was one of the MPM Bf109T's on sale at the show for £7. It has brass-etch and some resin, looks a build for the experienced, but lovely model. Academy do one as well in 1:48. Good purchase :)

Buy it, it's superb. Don't hesitate. Decals are dreadful though :) Get 2! Full engine and lots of weapon options :) :)

Not sure, it's only taped together just to give a general idea where any fit problems may arise. I think it's nice to see a Seafire with the wings folded, although it does spoil the general lines. It will also take up less room. The spare parts from the ICM kit are a bonus, if I can find out about underwing weapons especially. The ICM kit has underwing single 60lb rocket rails, which would be different. Some used an underfuselage P-40 drop tank as well.

Well, it's my first post, so any image work needing done is my fault, sorry. One of my favourite aircraft :)

Airfix 1:48 Spitfire Vb fuselage and Airfix 1:48 Seafire 17 folded wings, which should make a pretty accurate Seafire L.IIIc, as used in the Pacific. Prop is from the Seafire III, but the wings are really thick, although there are two sets spare. It also has the correct 6-stack exhausts (Merlin 55) and the arrestor hook.

The fuselage needs a few added bits, a strengthened radio hatch, stiffener plates on each side, and catapult plates as well. It will also need rescribing to match the wings.

The wing to fuselage gap will need some attention, but the cockpit bulkheads may help. If not, two sprue spreader bars will help, plus plastic card and some filler.

I also have the option of a slipper tank or centre-line 500lb bomb, from the ICM Spitfire VII 1:48 kit, plus wing racks for bombs, although I'm not sure if they were fitted.

It's only taped together, but interesting that with 30 years difference, the fit is pretty good, which says a lot about the quality of the original kit? I know that there are better models out there, but who's to say it can't hold it's own in 2011? The Seafire 17 is an astounding kit, recent Airfix stuff has certainly rivalled other manufacturers.

That really is great customer service, isn't it? I have the Jumo 004 engines and undercarriage from the MPM Me262 high-speed version, and a spare Bf109G fuselage as well :)
