Hi mates,

Wow man, you are a building scale model machine!! I am learning a lot, of course enjoying too. One day, I want to do my BF-109 colletion from A to Z (literally) :-ok :-clap :-clap

Hi mates,

A little more to show you with this project........

First, BE SURE that you will find a very crazy idea that I had and I've got from it a lot of good and bad comments!! So, I want in all truthfulness your comments about it, ok? ;)

Well, I did this because I had a problem with a DML's Fw-190D, some years ago. I cut off flaps and ailerons, so I lost correct section shape of wings. Then, making scratch Flap's interior wall (wing spar) was a nightmare. Having in mind this learnt lesson, I had an idea to help me keeping correct shape and a support for wings assamblies (wheel well, aileron hinges, and flaps, obviously), making cores for each wing

I decided to fill wings up with urethane resin from Smooth-On. It is a plastic, easy to work. So, let's get down to it!!

First, I applied demold agent to remove resin wing cores

Smooth Cast 300 as I used previously on wing air intakes......

I "sealed" wings joint with Tamiya Masking Tape

I mixed 1:1 part A and B, then I filled up one wing first, then second one (sorry, I was alone and I don't have photos of this :-red)
I didn't seal very well landing gear hole on the wing. Resin is like water viscosity, I had an important leak at the start (I stopped it puttind my finger wait for 3 minutes to finish pot life of resin)

Me, removing resin to wing surface.....

Pictures say more than my words........

I have my new pieces as it wings interiors.....

Now, next step......remove flaps and aileron.........soon

Hi mates,

Following with my D.520 (after a period of vacations and putting on control my mess on the bench), I made some corrections on white wing bands, and paint flat white rudder area for Savoy cross. I did this to simulate canvas vs. wing and fuselage bands. On this case, I used Humbrol 34 (Flat White) for rudder and Gunze Sangyo H1 (Gloss White).
Also, I found a photo that help me to paint diagonal bands and roundel on Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1 (I found this reference on http://www.stormomagazine.com/RegiaAeronauticaColorsinWWII_3a.htm => Foreign Built Aircraft section => "Captured French aircraft were left in their original colors with national insignias painted over with a Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1. Vichy French aircraft were treated similarly"
So, it is possible to reply this on my model

Some photos about this...
Before, I masked of rudder strips, then I preshaded again over white wing bands......

Now, wing bands in correct position..

A little post shade (preshade for next new coat in Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1)

Well, I hope to start painting camouflage colors this week  ;)

Hi mates,

Second Air Force, very nice to see a finished model!! Congrats!! Also, I find very helpful what you do on -109 late models. As you say, it can be great to fill out that "gap" mixing parts to get some G-10 variants.

Well, I keep following your updates!!

Thank you very much! I will take your recommendations and some "free artistic ideas" to finish this model.
Just a question more, do they have diagonal strips (blue, white and red) overpanited as roundel?

I hope update it this weekend!! Both, D.520 and P-39, too!!

Thanks, yes! I know the rule, "Don't follow instructions sheet, look forward in references". But I had not found any photos until I have this www.vvsregiaavions.com/, on French section=> Dewoitine D.520, so this is reason. There, it is possible to find in French and Itlaian service, mainly.

Well, I wait for your answer......

Thanks

Hi mates,

Thanks for your comments and support.

No.1,
You have the reason. I have checked color chips from your article vs. paint suppliers and have found darker tones in Dark Blue Gray and Light Blue Gray colors. Also, comparing color photos from WWII and actual (restored French airplanes), I think Model Master is closer in match. I will paint a plastic card to show this.
By other hand, I need your help. I have a doubt about white bands on wings as I painted. Following decal sheet directions to do it, but I found this photo from other D.520 in Italian service.
As you can see, white band were painted wider and align to machine guns compartment.....

I did it following this.....in outer position

So, I want to ask you for if you have more photos of this D.520 number 6 in Italian Service or in French. If I have to make a change, I am on time to do it!!

Thanks in advance, I wait for your comments, mates....

Thanks No.1

I appreciate all your comments and support. I had heard about Agama, it is not known in Mexico by the most of modellers. We can get, Humbrol, Model Master, Gunze Sangyo, Vallejo, Alclad II and Tamiya from local dealers. Lifecolor, Xtracolor, Polly's or Floquil are ordered via mail, but known.

Agama offers good match colors as I see, my chance to get a good match is Model Master in french and italian colors for this version......

If you have more photos, I will thank you. Just one photo, I have found on the web!!

I hope post more soon........... :))
