Continuing with the conversion, fuselage shortened and reassembled in halves, taped together to dry. Had to reinforce the join as there will be a bit of filler needed. Wings have been partially rescribed, pylons removed (not fitted on the P-47B), wingtip light cut out.

I have this in 1:72, Merlin Models. Old but nice, although the cowling is very poor :(

Good build subject, I must do my Hansa-Brandenburg W.20 at some point!

Hello everyone!

As we know, my house is undergoing major building work, so whilst moving stuff about, this old kit turned up in a bag. I'm going to convert it into P-47B, used as a trainer in the USAAF. It looks pretty nice, just need to remove a section as the B was 1' shorter than the 'C' model. I've opened up the intercoolers, blanked off the ejector chutes, thinned out the cowling, dropped the flaps.

Next job after that is a cockpit interior -I'll use the Academy P-47D as a guide. Might replace the prop as well. I also need to make wheel wells. Rescribing should be relatively simple. There is also work to do after the cowling, need to make an exhaust both sides. Colour scheme is Olive Drab/Neutral Grey. Should make an interesting model.

I like the 'distressed' effect of the upper camouflage, nice blending. What wash will you give the panel lines? I like the idea of using dark brown preshading for underneath and a darker grey or black on top. I saw this technique on a large scale model and wondered what the forum thinks? Has anyone tried it?

Great idea! I'll get hunting in the decal box, see what is there :)

I have some Chinese Nationalist (KMT) markings from an Amodel I-16, so I could do mine in those markings?

It would be funny if we both end up with the same markings on our models! :)

There is no rush, Scott. The builders are still renovating the house, so take your time :)

Small update : thinned out the trailing edges using a craft knife blade, which makes quite a difference. Pictures to follow once some more work is done. I also did the same to my vacform Albatros C.I and Aviatik B.II, which, once some more work is done re: interior structure and priming, will also be in a separate thread for all to enjoy (hopefully!) I need some 1mm tape to add the underwing ribs, as the wings are single-surfaced, which gives a great scale thickness. Somewhere in a box is the old 'Formaplane' vacform Be2-12 conversion kit, which has replacement wings for my old Airfix RE.8 :)

Well-deserved, your builds are inspirational.

Panzer Grey and RLM 66 are very close in tone, and, bearing in mind the propensity of the fading process, either colour is applicable. In some ways, the colour you use is probably better, as neat RLM 66 on a 1:48 kit is probably a bit dark. With Panzer Grey you've already lightened the interior by 10-20%. Great initiative, Srecko :)

Of course! I'd forgotten about them. S-328 would be worth doing. Thanks for reminding me :)
