Aircraft Modeling / Re: Bare metal Hawker Tempest V

Kitty is a problem cat we took over from one of our neighbours last year after our own two Persians had passed away. She had a 'sanitary'-problem when in companion with her two sister-cats, but alone she is now quite content in our house without her previous problem. Cat is almost three years old now.

This is my version of the Academy 1/48 scale Tempest in the colours of the French ace Pierre Closterman.
I built this kit some 10-12 years ago.

And the last shot: as always; cat in the house!!//

Aircraft Modeling / Re: Strange Nurflügel...

That strange Nurflügel is in fact an exact model of the pre-WWII "Horten transport plane" as used for the movie RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC. Of course it is imaginary, but  it was actually built for this movie with working propellers!

What about FJ-1? Do you also plan to make a profile of this type?

Just downloaded this nice E-book.
Although it does not contain any new material, I think it would have been worth printing!!
It must be frustrating to present such a book free of charge.....

'Hawaii Mars' was one of the operational U.S. Navy Mars flying boats used for troop transport.
One Mars is still in use as a water bomber as far as I know.

Just in case you are interested: attached photos of the Tempest I and Tempest V prototypes.
Tempest I originally flew with same Typhoon-style cockpit as Tempest V!
If wanted I can provide larger-size images!

My good friend Johan Visschendijk (from www.1000aircraftphotos.com) has helped me to find the plane's identity.
It is German after all: the Caspar U-1 boardplane for submarines.
See http://histaviation.com/Caspar_U_1.html

Plane is NOT Dutch (or I should know it!) and most likely also not Polish.
I checked the book from Jerzy Czynck on Polish aircraft and there is nothing resembling the type on the photos.
It still is a big puzzle to me but I still think it is somehow related to the German LTG type!

'Tante Ju' arrived at Lelystad airport on Friday 5 September on a flight from Cologne. It arrived with paying passengers who were transported earlier to Cologne by bus. Same day one 45 minutes flight was made over the Flevoland province, where I live. Unfortunately it did not fly over my house at Almere-Buiten.
Yesterday, 6 October, the plane made another two pleasure flights over the Flevoland area. At the end of the afternoon it flew back to Cologne, again with paying passengers who were also transported back by bus.
The event was organized by the Aviodrome museum to give some 'galore' during the Dakota fly-in of this weekend. To be honest, there only was one Dakota during this event, although a B-26, B-25, Beech D18S, a Harvard and a Beaver were also present. We had to compete with the Duxford airshow and we lost since all Dakotas originally scheduled flew to the UK. So, the Ju was a very welcome addition to our weekend!
Since I work 2 days a week at the museum's 2nd-hand bookshop, I was offered the flight for a reduced rate.
Normal price for the trips was EURO 189.

Ju-52/3m flying is 'sweet and soft' and the grand old lady performed perfectly with a very smooth landing at 110 km/h. Alltogether the flight, originally planned at 20 minutes, actually lasted 45 minutes! Think the crew also had big fun flying this nice bird.
Please, note that orginal BMW engines have been replaced by Wright Cyclones which is I think a good and practical choice.

Attached some more shots!

I made today a flight in the Junkers Ju-52/3m D-AQUI from Lufthansa.
Although it was raining, it was a great experience!
Here are some shots of this event. Location is Lelystad airport-the Netherlands.

This type strongly reminds me of the FD.1 single-seat float fighter built by LTG (Luft-Torpedo-Gesellschaft) at Johannisthal.
However, this type had a Mercedes engine, but it is quite well possible it was fitted at some time with a radial engine (though literature does not mention this!). The FD.1 had struts between the two wings, but it also here possible these were not yet fitted when the pictures were taken
Any further ideas out there???
