I have heard about two stories. The russians wanted to move it to Leningrad in 1946....on the way it ran into a mine. The other story is it came into a storm and the dragging ship came into a storm had to cut the wires. So it was sunk with 2 Torpedos somewhere 30 miles north of Großendorf (Bay of Gdansk) and nobody knew where exactly the wreck is located until they found it by chance.

Not aircraft but related. Links you to a pdf about German Carrier "Graf Zeppelin" with about 70 images. It was only Carrier ever produced in Germany. It was never in service and the wreckage was found only just recently by Petrobaltic (a polish oil company) on 12. Juli 2006.

I found some impressive photos of the aircrafts in use by the German air force while they started to rebuild it and had secret training facilities in Lipezk, Soviet Union. In 1925 50 Fokker D.XIII were posted to Lipezk as trainer a/c.

Yes, a print from the 60s from an unknown aviation buff's collection. I wonder what is the underground material under the plane and the wood in the background looks so strange in B/W. Like Amazon rain forest but had to buy it for a clear shot  :-green

That costed me hours to increase my virtual memory and resize it. I hope you appreciate it  ;)

In 1938 in Germany was made movie about Red baron and this is the last time that Dr.I was running its engine. I think the very last was destroyed during the bombing in 1944.

I know which movie you mean. It was discussed in an aerodrome thread some month ago but i cannot remember the titel atm.

Since we talk about my favourite director Stanley. I found a scene in " Paths of Glory where they sit in a trench and you can see a wreckage of a German airplane. Rudder shape is rounded. I have to buy this movie also on DVD, i have seen it before but i didnt know it was from Stanley  :)) I consider this early B/W movie of Kubrick to be one of the best WWI movies.

Yep. That i meant. I also found a picture in my Alb C.III Datafile where it is stated in caption Alb. C.III 4184/15 is unusual in that it is fitted with side radiators for the Mercedes engine having the same device at the side. Thanks PM Grosz and thanks you  :-cool

Hello Mates.

Maybe a stupid question but i wonder what these metal bars looking like a ladder are at the side of this B.I . Have seen it now on various photos but until now i never thought about it.
