Aircraft Modeling / Revell 1/48 PV-1
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:03:23 PM »
I  recently completed Revell's 1/48 PV-1. This is a wonderful kit! The fit is perfect. It was such fun to build. The decals are from Zotz, and I used some True Details resin props. The rest is OOB.

I highly recommend this kit!

Aircraft Modeling / Hasegawa 1/48 Spitfire Mk. Vb built as a Seafire Ib
« on: December 01, 2011, 02:28:50 PM »
Hi everyone!

This is a "sort of" conversion of a Spitfire Mk. Vb to a Seafire Ib. I scribed in the arrestor hook area, cut out a notch and added a tail hook, and added the sling points. I did not add the wing stiffners, as I was simply ready to move on to the painting, which is why I love the FAA birds- those colors are so cool to me.

Cockpit is a True Details resin cockpit. I normally don't do resin, but I had it, and the process wasn't too distasteful.

Colors are Xtracrylix for the camo. Not a bad kit, with good fit.

Aircraft Modeling / More Monogram fun- 1/48 OS2U Kingfisher
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:06:30 PM »
I'd forgotten to share my photos of the re-issued Kingfisher kit I finished in the last week or so. It's built in the markings of an Alaska-based Kingfisher from '43-'44. Good little kit, built out of the box.

If you build it it, two things to be careful of...

- When you close the fuselage halves up, be sure the wings are perpendicular to the fuselage. There is a little play in them, and they can be off a bit.

- If you build the land-plane version, glue the main gear parts on first, making sure they are even in all axis's, and let them dry. After that, work the central support struts in and adjust them as needed.

Failing to heed these will result in a Kingfisher like I have built.... crooked wings and it leans to one side....   :-wall :))

Aircraft Modeling / I *can* build something other than Spitfires.... ;)
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:49:32 PM »
This is Revell's recent re-release of the old Monogram P-47D Razorback. It's still a great kit. Nice decals come with it for three birds. I chose "The Pied Piper" because I thought it was kinda funny. Built out-of-the-box. Painted with Tamiya and Gunze paints. For the money (I paid US$16.00), it is plenty of modeling fun for not much cash.

And now that this is done, I can get back to Spitfires! :D

Aircraft Modeling / Anyone ever do a conversion of a T-6 to an A-27?
« on: October 20, 2011, 05:21:04 PM »
I have the Monogram T-6 kit, and I want to convert it to an A-27. I have several photos to work with, but I was wondering if anyone had ever done that conversion and could share their experience doing that. I'm particularly interested in how the cowl and fuselage forward-firing guns were modified.

Thanks for any help!

Aircraft Modeling / Airfix new-tool 1/72 Hurricane IId- COMPLETED
« on: October 11, 2011, 12:04:47 PM »
Hi everyone!

This is Airfix's new-tool 1/72 Hurricane Mk. IIc, converted to a IId using 3D-Kits conversion set. This is a nice kit to build, no problems at all in assembly. It's painted with Xtracrylix paints for the Azure Blue and Middlestone, and Gunze acrylics for the Dark Earth.

I really like the 3D-Kits conversion sets. This is the second one I've used, and they are really nice.

Hope you like!

Hi everyone!

Here is Fujimi's 1/48 Spitfire Mk. Vb, built as a IIb. The markings are from an Aeromaster set.

The kit is not the best one on the market, but it's a nice build. Cockpit detail is minimal and not close to accurate. The "inverted gull wing" on the underside is not present. Still, it's a fun kit to build, and in my quest to build all things Spitfire, this was actually one of my favorites.

Aircraft Modeling / Mistel S2 WIP
« on: September 27, 2011, 01:31:26 PM »
Hi everyone,

A friend asked me to build this kit for him so he could use the photos on his online store page. It's his own boxing of various parts, consisting of an AMT 1/72 Ju-88, and then various parts to build either the trainer or warhead version of a Mistel. He even includes some new resin cooling fans in place of the kit engines. The Fw-190 is not included, but he sent one to me to add in. (It's the Revell kit.)

I've never built any Luftwaffe subjects, so this is something new for me. I warned him I had no experience modeling these. I hope my friend likes it! :)

Aircraft Modeling / Academy's Spitfire Mk. XIVe built as a Mk. XVIII
« on: September 19, 2011, 03:22:22 PM »
I enjoyed this build very much. Aside from an Aerowaves Mk. XVIII rudder, and adding camera ports to the lower fuselage, and some Eduard belts, this kit is pretty much OOB. The stripes were painted on, and I was happy with how they looked when complete.
