USS L(egg)xington
« on: July 12, 2017, 09:40:41 AM »
A little bit of fun. This time it's not an egg plane but an egg ship!
Meng released this year the USS Lexington in a comic style; I've bought that kit during the Brno expo, Czechia.
Kit is conceived for young modelers; no glue is needed (well... better to use glue for some parts IMHO)...

There are six aircrafts provided with the kit; that are:
Two Wildcats
Two Dauntless
Two Devastators.

It's the first time in my modeler's life that I've build SIX AIRCRAFTS on ONE evening!  :))
To be noted that one of the Dauntless will have the wings folded...

For the Wildcats I've glued the propellers; will do that after painting for the others. There are also some parts that will be painted separately: torpedoes of the Devastators and, of course, folded wings of one Dauntless...

The elevator:
The part is at same level than the deck. My wish is to put the dauntless with folded wings on that elevator; so I've removed some matter and obtained an excellent result - what I really want...

Great kit, but don't let the "outside world" know you've folded the wings on an SBD--they are non-folding on the real thing!

It's all part of the FUN of builds like these!!!! It's a great project and I hope as time moves forward the "egg" series will somehow get the younger ones involved in scale modeling.

True Scott, egg kits can be excellent stuff to bring young people to our hobby...

After having airbrushed white primer, I'm beginning the real paint work.
As I will not use the stickers, I have to paint the yellow strips and code letters on the deck. I have also paint some other elements...
