I'm starting a new build, that will be a funny one:
Why funny? Because that kit is far from excellence. I will have lot of work to obtain something valuable out of that basic stuff - But it's a nice challenge!
First step: sanding!
The parts of the kit are ruguous. Sanding is not a luxe; it's really necessity. As you can see on the photo, the first wing (above) is the original one; the second wing is the result obtained after sanding, first with 600 then with 1000 sanding paper...
-
Maybe this drawings could be of some help. Did anybody know what's happen with prototype of this fighter? Long time ago I hear that Soviet capture it, completed and tested but not sure is this really happen.
-
I seem to remember that also, No.1. My recollection is that this little airplane was the "father" or basis of the design that eventually led to the MiG-15. I can't recall if the Soviets actually flew the Ta-183 or simply studied it in depth.
Draken, I've worked on some kits like this and they are fun? :-eek :-help We'll enjoy your resurrection of this plastic!
-
Story of captivity is strange, as I know plat is over run by British troops? Anyway it have great influence in post war jet fighters design.
-
AFAIK, the Huckebein falled into Soviet hands and is really the "direct ancestor" of MiG-15.
F-86 Sabre was the son of Messesrschmit P1101...
Anyway, I'm really thinking about that build as a fun one because I wish to see what I can really do with a more than basic kit...
-
This plane was more or less realized after the war by Kurt Tank in Argentina as the Pulqui II.
The Pulqui II was much closer in resemblence of the original Ta-183 design than other types like the MiG-15.
Post war publications even mentioned a 'MiG-19' that looked very strongly like the Ta 1-83 but this was in fact 'designed' by Russian Aviation Experts in the West!
-
La-15 look more like Ta 183, then MiG-15, just my opinion.
-
Air intake is ameliorated, with the help of an empty ink cartridge and an old jerk
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183003.jpg)
Hole is made in the half fuselage, to introduce that element
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183005.jpg)
Hope there will be no problem with the cockpit floor... To be verified in the next few days!
-
Good idea for intake :)
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Really interesting new project! :-ok
-
Thank you Akinator!
Well, sanding of all the parts is still in progress, after no less than 4 sessions and the use of Mr Surfacer 500 to correct some defaults... In the meantime I considered my air intake and was not totally satisfied because there were some problems of fitting with the cockpit floor - And detailing was not good enough for my mad brain!
So: I recuperated a second empty ink cartridge and dismounted the jerk
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183006.jpg)
I made a hole in the rear of the cartridge
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183007.jpg)
...And positioned what remains of the jerk into the hole
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183008.jpg)
What happens:
But I have not glued my new part yet; before that I will paint it and before painting: DETAILING :-tri :-tri :-tri
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183010.jpg)
As I have said, kit is far from excellence. I give me the challenge to obtain a very good result when finished ;)
-
Some progress on that kit...
To the left, the original part of the kit and to the right: the scratchbuilded one
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183011.jpg)
Another modification, with PE parts from my spare box (PE for Horten Go 229)
The original seat end the one made with PE
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183013.jpg)
Some evergreen
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183014.jpg)
Resin carrots are sometimes useful: I will make lateral consoles with that
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183015.jpg)
The result, with on the drawing the original parts
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183016.jpg)
And finally, miliput to mask wings holes, that are visible from the cockpit
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183018.jpg)
-
You really did great update on subject!!!
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Wonderful!
The original seat would have required a rather thin pilot, wouldn't it?!

...An anorexic one I would say...

:)

Painting of the parts but also study of the kit. Careful study will be useful to avoid some "traps" with that kit...
RLM for interior of the cockpit

The exhaust
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183020.jpg)
Canopy is masked + RLM02
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183021.jpg)
Wheels, wheel legs and doors
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183022.jpg)
Seat and seatbelts
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183024.jpg)
Instrument panel is recuperated from an old photoetch set and adapted. It will be placed on a support made with Evergreen (kit contained no instrument panel)
The little ring in copper wire is simple the antenna that will be placed later on the aircraft
Le manche à balai
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183027.jpg)
The lateral consoles
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183028.jpg)
And finally the air intake, modified and that asked for lot of work to avoid problems with cockpit floor but also with the floor of the front wheel emplacement
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183029.jpg)

I like details, very nice work!!

Thank you my friend! ;)

F-86 Sabre was the son of Messesrschmit P1101...
Hello everybody,
When I wrote the extra issue of Aéro-Journal "Luft '46" I discovered that the direct "son" of the P-1101 is the... Saab J-29. Officially, F-86 was improved thanks to German studies on the swept wing, but I think this assertion is not totally true, because studies on the swept wing begun before the war. I think that it's the fact that german tested the swept wing which made the Americans applying the concept.
During my search for this extra issue, I discovered too, that the Ta 183 had been completed (I wonder) or the Russians had built a prototype based on the Ta 183 and flew it. I found no confirmation that the Germans begun the building of a prototype of the Ta 183 that, as known, was not the definitive project...
The MiG 15 has nothing to do with the Ta 183.
Jicehem :-wave

As always, your info are real treasure :-clap Thank you Jicehem :-ok
-
Yes, thanks for that information, Jicehem. The SAAB certainly looks the part of "little brother" and your research is great to have, as usual!

Hi Second Air Force,
I discoverd also drawings of the Me P. 1101 with legends entirely translated into French, I think of the time of Germany collapse, accompanying German files from Messerschmitt which where all given to Saab...
The German technology for the projected Me P. 1112 was applied on the Lockheed P/F-80 Shooting Star early series in connexion with the exhaustion of the boundary air layer which consisted of a fan just in front of the jet engine.

Thanks for those infos, Jicehem!
Gloss varnish then oil wash then matt varnish then pastels. Followed by:
cockpit is inserted in the fuselage with an instrument pael. Then half fuselkage are assembled together and wings glued in place.
As you can see, lot of putty is needed...
Evergreen for the front wheel trap
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183032.jpg)
The new air intake and exhaust
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183033.jpg)
The wheels
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183036.jpg)
And the new seat, from far better than the original one!!!

Hi,
Good work on an amazing plane. I've one to build and so, I follow your step by step work.
Jicehem :-wave
-
Very nice shape!!
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Very nice mate! :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Thank you!
Sanding (two sessions) and rescribing of some panels
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183038.jpg)
Then Rub 'n Buff is used to obtain a good metal effect
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183039.jpg)
-
Excellent!
-
Thank you Scott! ;)
-
Hi,
Nice work for a good rendering.
Jicehem :-wave
-
Thank you!
-
First layout of primer revealed some defaults where putty was applied.
This time I've used Mr Surfacer 500.
-
Exquisite!
Incidentally, I stumbled onto a photo of an early Ryan Firebee drone, and it looks for all the world like a slightly smaller version of the Ta-183 with a conventional horizontal tail location. I wonder if the Ryan designers were somehow inspired by this advanced machine?
-
Interresting info Scott, thank you!
-
Sanding done.
-
New primer layout; all is OK now
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183043.jpg)
And a little bit of scribing to represent the position lights
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183044.jpg)

I think about some easy way to replace this solid plastic with real transparent plastic... ?

I think about some easy way to replace this solid plastic with real transparent plastic... ?
Sure it's a possibility.
But I wish to try another method: alu then transparent green and red
-
I also mean on this, transparent but what? What is most suitable material?
-
Tamiya makes nice transparent red and blue. The blue looks pretty close to the green of most lenses and I've been using this for some time now.
-
Do you have link to product?

Just from my experience, I've been using the blue for right side lenses as it is closer to how a real "green" lens looks with no lightbulb turned on inside.
-
Aha, I understand now. I am actually looking for solution to replace part is colored plastic with identical shaped but transparent. I have some ideas but have to see how to manage it...
-
Little progress
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta1830415.jpg)
-
Canopy is placed
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183048.jpg)
Fitting is very poor (very bad to be honnest).
I have used of some little parts of Evergreen and then putty
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183049.jpg)
-
At least it is almost near to painting ;)
-
Sure! ;)
-
Nice progress! :-ok :-ok
-
Thank you!
Putty is sanded now
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183050.jpg)
-
Very smooth look, it will take paint perfectly!

Very smooth look, it will take paint perfectly!
Just a little default revealed by the RLm that I've airbrusehd this afternoon. I will correct it with miliput I think.
-
As previously said: use of miliput + placement of the antenna
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183051.jpg)

Duck egg green masked; then Sky Grey airbrushed on the undersurfaces
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183056.jpg)
-
Masking of the undersurfaces, then dark grey
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183057.jpg)

-
It look good with this RAF style scheme :)
-
Thank you ;)
-
Very light weathering done; and for the position lights I used Rub'n Buff as a base for red and green colors to come
(http://users.skynet.be/bk320910/ta183064.jpg)
-
Nice metal spots ;)
-
Thank you!
But it's just a beginning; after the weathering result will be slightly different.
In fact, I don't like the ctual result but it's always like that at that point of the building of a kit. Best result will come later... ;)
-
Well...
First, I have painted the lights then I have airbrushed Pébéo gloss varnish.
Then the decals :)
Love the result :-love :-love :-love
Photos taken first without then with flash
-
Result is great :-ok
-
Thank you! ;)
-
I have removed the masks from the metallic parts to make the oil wash; then I have placed new masks
-
Pébéo matt varnish was airbrushed and the masks définitively removed. Minor corrections made on the Rub n Buff. I like that product!
-
...And finaly, use of pastels (LOVE THAT!!!) and final assembly. Here is my Ta183 finished:
-
Result is gorgeous :-ok :-razz :-clap :-clap
-
Thank you my friend ;)
-
Yes, this is simply beautiful!!
-
Thank you Scott! :)
-
Hi,
Amazing result. Congratulations.
Jicehem :-wave
-
Thank you mate! ;)
-
amazing work !
