Trumpeter F-106B

I'm adding another Dart to my friend's collection!

He has been wanting me to build another airplane he worked on, and this one with a twist--I'm adding the Gatling gun pod that was optional on the F-106. The kit is a Trumpeter F-106A and the gun pod is a vacuformed wing pylon from an ancient 1/48 Ju 88 vacuform that I've never finished.

Yes, vacuform kits are still waiting on my shelves to be built........I don't even know who the manufacturer was but the kit isn't too bad.

Update on the Trumpeter F-106A, the kit goes together just like the B model with little problems. Just a small amount of filler at various seams. (Disregard the Bf 109 wings--a new thread will be coming for those)

This F-106 is continuing in parallel with Daniel's Mirage 5--we're both at relatively the same stage:

Modellius, the fit of this Trumpeter kit is really nice and doesn't require a lot of filling. I probably could have done a better job of joining the two fuselage halves and used less red filler. The only tricky part of building this kit (the two seat version was easier in this respect) is getting the nose gear box and cockpit sandwiched into the fuselage halves. It takes numerous dry-fittings to get the instrument panel just right before everything can be glued in place.

I've tried something new with this big Delta, painting the underside in the ADC grey first. I'll let this dry a few days and then start on the top. The last couple F-106s I built ended up with some "wet paint" issues on the lower part when I was painting the upper.
