No idea why this external part is used in such way, they are smooth on surface... but as you see, will see when you paint it 
I think they were put in the phase of making the gatekeeper, there is a slight difference in the color so it's possible it is just some kind of " aftermarket " ......

The first step of painting, basic paint done with Alclad and Vallejo, and the decals are on, the decals are a fine aftermarket product made by HAD Decals, I put on some Gunze Mark Softer but had to realise it was just a waste of time and Mark Softer....
