Focke Wulf Fw 190 S-8
« on: July 06, 2012, 05:52:45 PM »
Hi everybody,

Here is a rarely seen version of the Fw 190, especially in kit shape : the Fw 190 S-8. It's based on the Heller kit of the Fw 190 F-3/F-8. The fuselage is a resin part made by Dauzié and canopy is a vac-formed one.
The Dauzié part has been badly molded and there was a big hole into the engine cowling !

Apart from a sheme for "Nr 115" of an unknown SG, there was no decals at all in the Dauzié box...

Well... I had to correct the Heller's kit nose and cement it in place of the resin one after I cut it off. I also replaced the MG 131 cowlings by the ones of Heller and the very bad wheels of Heller were replaced by Airfix wheels.
I found two photos of a captured S-8 (one of each side. Very rare fact indeed !) coded 7+Q belonging to an unknown unit. The plane is seen among other Fw 190 A fighters (some beeing night fighters) at Voerlose. The plane seems to be painted in RLM 81, 82 and 76 colors.

There still is one Fw 190S existing. Many years ago it was part of the St. Athans collection in the UK and as far as I can remember it was restored to 100% condition. Its engine could run and it could taxi under its own power. No idea where it is now, but I can hardly believe it no longer exists!
