Messerschmitt Bf109E
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:46:32 AM »
Must say that I am much disappointed with the accuracy of the new Eduard kit in 1/48 scale. Few days ago I start build, sorry that I did not put images in time, and before start I take some measures and result was so bad. Images bellow show work in progress. Build is easy and part are very precise mold.

I am impressed with the level of errors here. So- parts are fine if you plan to build kit with open engine but if you don't want that? Many people, as well my self, do prefer streamlined shapes of airplane and do not open various panels and some even close landing gear and put kit in flight position. If you want to make this Eduard kit with closed nose, you need to make engine anyway, reason is that exhaust pipes could be placed on engine only. And when you try to put cowling on engine- no way! I simply cut top half of engine and make somehow possibly to close cowling. As relax part of build I have assembled main wing parts, need to put etched mesh on cooling radiator and then to complete it. Final image... just see how much is this longer then it have to be. If Eduard don't make revision of this problems, this will be last Bf109E in 1/48 I take from them.

Final measures state that fuselage is 4 millimeter longer and wing have one millimeter larger span (not big problem in this scale). Other problems with wings are here...

I read another build thread on the Web. The author also mentioned the cowl not fitting with the engine installed. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that I like the idea that Eduard has a full-sized engine in the kit. They possibly should have made block-off plates for the exhausts so the modeler has the option of the closed cowlings.

Your build is looking nice, No.1!

Thanks friends :) It is true- due to the fact that plastic is tick and metal cowling are thin metal, when you make engine in size you would not be able to close it. My complain is that they need to make some kind of plate to put exhaust stuck for those who want kit with closed engine.
