Title: Longtail Dora
Post by: No.1 on July 12, 2011, 05:15:02 PM
Greetings all,

here is my fresh start, German fighter aircraft Fw190D. This sample is special in having adopted Ta 152 style vertical surfaces so it have really unique look. Not much machines is known to have this feature. Kit I use is Eduard release from few months ago.

First step was making assembly sections of cockpit elements and engine compartment. They are all painted in Vallejo black primer (my first wide use of this product).

I have the Italeri(Dragon) 1:48 ones, but I got a D-12 tail and some engine details in resin from the USA. I'm looking forward to seeing how the kit goes together, the late 190D versions have some fascinating colour schemes. Good luck with the kit!

I imagine that the engineering of the kit is such that you must follow the instructions exactly, like the Accurate Minatures kits?

Thank you mate. Well, it could be regularly even faster but I have other things to do. So this kit could be even painted today but as well I will not be able to do any modeling today, it is hard to estimate this before next day. Images show small parts fitting.

True- the same pipe and linkage system is masterpiece of the design work and as well it is clearly visible from bottom, it must be made. Hope that similar could be seen also in 1/72 scale

My D-9 arrived this morning and it is really mouth-watering. I wish I didn't have all these other projects in work because I'd like to start this! I've even gone through my spare decals (I bought the Weekend Edition kit) and sourced what I need for the ship I want to build.

hmmm... to be honest, maybe I made a mistake - black dot on the rear fuselage is not an overspray of black band? I see now it's same on both sides... :-think

Lifting point, one on each side and on image black band goes direct over it.

Excellent result, No.1!

One question--how well did the corkscrew swirl decal lay down on the spinner? If it's easier I may mask and paint mine rather than use the decal.
Title: Re: Longtail Dora
Post by: No.1 on July 18, 2011, 04:47:27 PM
Spiral come as decal and it lay down perfectly, just take care when you apply, take correct angle, start from bottom, use much water to wet surface and no problem at all. When make it with paint I make border path with thin strip of self adhesive tape and then cover the rest with wider strips of tape.

Very good--I'll make use of the supplied decal!

I'm going to tack on this small "review" to No.1's thread since it's related to his excellent build.

Recently I received several products from Scale Aircraft Conversions for review in LLL Magazine #4. One of the gear sets was for the Fw-190. I started my D-9 today and built up this gear leg so y'all could see what it looks like. I polished the white-metal strut and painted the balance with RLM 02 and installed the scissor link. It's a nice looking gear set and will be a good upgrade, especially for some of the older kits on the market.

Yes, but I had a splitting headache when I started working on it. :-wall :-wall I managed to assemble the wing and engine accessory section but didn't even try to align the gunbay/motor mount/firewall because I wasn't going to be able to concentrate. :-roll I'll go back to this one later, when my mind is clear!

I'm VERY impressed with the engineering that went into this kit. The landing gear bays are beautiful in themselves.
