I've been commissioned to build another 1/48 F-106, this time to be displayed "in flight". This will be in the same colors as the one I built for my friend, 49th FIS, but as aircraft 59-0083. This will be so very simple since there is virtually no work to do!. I did find that closing the landing gear doors is something of a chore as they are not designed to be closed as molded. Nothing that the razor saw, Dremel tool, and some glue can't handle.

The receptacle for the desk stand is installed into the access panel for the Ram Air Turbine between the weapons bay and main gear doors, right in the most sturdy part of the fuselage. I haven't built an in-flight model since I was a small boy, and painting the pilot will be tasking my skills, too!!!

Indeed, I did a lot of the work in about an hour. The only really detailed part will be the cockpit and pilot, and even that is hard to see with the canopy closed. There isn't a deadline on this so it might take a few weeks to finish.

So, a small update on this Dart. The major part of the airplane is now ready for primer day. The ejection seat and pilot are still being painted and fitted on another corner of the workbench.

Here are a couple of small steps, painting the seat and pilot. He's not extremely detailed since there will be a canopy enclosing him.....
