My crew chief friend wouldn't be very happy if I weathered his airplane--he and his helper kept the paint in almost as-new finish right up to the day it was flown to Davis Monthan for storage! He told me that the 49th was VERY particular about keeping their ancient warriors looking good so the rest of the Air Force could admire their 1950s technology.

The finale to this build happened today after work. As a Christmas gift I presented the F-106 to my friend, Mike, who was crew chief on the 1/1 version of this airplane with the 49th FIS.

Yep, giving someone "their" airplane in miniature is one of the greatest feelings in modeling, at least in my opinion. My first presentation was to a friend and customer of mine who'd flown 35 missions in a Flying Fortress. His eyes became moist when I gave it to him. It was a wonderful sensation to see his reaction.
