Time to resume modeling after two weeks that were very hard...
I will build for review the I-16 Type 10 from Eduard. At first regard, the content of the box is gorgeous...
-
An enjoyable build, too!
-
Great mate :-ok
-
Nice!
-
It is time now to resume the work on those nice I-16... I will give priority to that combo build now.
First, as the plan shows the half fuselage inverted on the first page, to avoid any mistake I've numbered the half fuselages with a marker...
I have placed the photoetch elements inside the fuselage, and the exhausts - For the exhausts it was not so easy to place, but no real problem anyway.
In the process I've lost a tiny PE element; fortunately the part existed in injected so for one aircraft I've used that one instead.
...Naturally, having finished the work for today, I've found the lost element on my work table... :-evil
-
Ah.....the enjoyment continues!
-
Glad you are back :-ok
-
Yes I'm back, and really sorry to have delayed that build for so long time... My goal is to finish all the build I have to make for Eduard kit review before the end of the year!!!
-
Cockpit elements are removed from sprue. I've also glued the wings, guns and pitot tube...
-
:-ok
-
Small number of parts so this can be fast done (I hope so) :-ok
-
Well, I hope so... ;)
-
I am anxious to see how your fuselage halves fit together. My (much older) kit gave me a little work to do in that operation. They're moving along nicely!
-
Well Scott, half fuselages seem to fit well together (trials are satisfying me)...
Little progress today... PE is glued.
-
There will not be much work inside :)
-
Nor can much be seen through the little cockpit "hole"! :-eek
I'm glad to hear the halves fit nicely. My sample had been on a shelf for a long time and I believe one half was warped a bit because of that.
-
Hello Gentlemen,
Very nice job Second Air Force, I have Eduard's I-16 kit and this will help me!!
I follow you in your WIP.
-
Memitus,
This one is actually by our own draken35, not I!
I did build one on LLL some time ago. It's a great kit, and watching this dual-build is twice the fun.....
-
Oooppsss!!
Yes, you are right!! My mind was thinking right, but my hands betrayed me!!
Thanks
-
No problem, mate!
-
Primer was airbrushed today
-
Nice white :))
-
Well, I like those kits. There are pleasant to built. A little bit anxious for the assembly of the cockpit interior (seems weird or, at last, strange) but hope that all will be fitting finely...
-
I've sent a PM your way, draken.
Good primer day!
-
Nice... ;)
-
Thank you!
Second Air Force sent me a PM very useful:
"You mentioned the cockpit parts fit. When I built mine I removed the sides of the floorboards so that you can see down to the wing area as on the original. Perhaps that will help with any fit issues you might be having. As I remember the floor interferes with the sidewall detail."
Scott, you're true! So, I've modified the floorboards... Thank you, mate!
-
Good tip! I think somewhere on the bottom was also carried pistol
-
Well, I don't know for the pistol but there is none in the box kit...
Today I've airbrushed gray (Gunze H61) and green (Gunze H303)
-
Not problem at all, your work is great :-clap
-
:-ok :-clap
-
Thank you ! :))
Today, I've paintbrushed the instruments on the interior of the fuselage - Strange to note that Eduard gives grey color on a side and green on the other - But OK, let's go...
Then, assembly of the instrument panels and finally, red leather where needed for...
-
When I was researching these early I-16s I saw both reference to grey and green. No real clarification could be given so I am happy with however you build it!
-
Nice progress mate... ;)
-
Thank you!
Some weathering, and then Pébéo gloss varnish
-
Great work mate, really great :-clap
-
Look good! ;)
-
Pébéo matt varnish airbrushed...
-
I can not imagine modeling without Pébéo
-
I can not imagine modeling without Pébéo
I fully agree, my friend... ;)
-
:-ok
-
Thank you!
-
Today, weathering with Tamiya pastels. I like those pastels... Easy to use, and excellent result!
-
From my point of view pastels are best material for weathering! No matter of manufacturer, long time ago I work with womens make up and results was great!!!
-
Great, great result Daniel! I like it!! :-clap :-clap
-
Yes I like to use pastels too... :)
Anyway, yesterday I had lot of reflexions: how to assemble the seat and cockpit interior with the addition of the seatbelts?
The best way I have found is the following: the lateral seatbelts were glued on the seat itself; the other seatbelts were glued to the backseat. The seatbelts were positioned so I had no problem to assemble seat + backseat; then I glued definitively all the seatbelts.
After that I assembled the half fuselages, glued the cockpit interior and the instrument panel (a pitty: you see practically nothing of that panel... :( ) and then the fuselage to the wings. Fitting was not really good, I had lot of problems and nerviously it wasn't easy...
Today I glued other elements to the wings/fuselage. Lot of sanding is needed, and putty also...
-
Yes, the instrument panel really does become hidden when assembled. These are really looking excellent!
One saving grace with the wing to fuselage fit is that the original had a rather rough surface in that area also. I spent a good amount of time examining one of the I-16s here in the States and it wasn't the most aerodynamic finish ever constructed.....
-
Thank you for the info, Scott! It's good news...
-
Good job mate. I like your cockpits!! :-clap ;)
-
Thank you! ;)
-
I've applied a mix of putty & aceton. To be noted that during the sanding phase, I've accidentally sanded the position light... There are back again, thanks to 3d paint for tissues...
-
Very nice. :-clap
-
Thank you!
-
Well, work was still in progress but sanding phase needed a loong moment...
Now, ready for next phase!
-
Painting :))
-
I think so ;)
-
:-ok
-
Work on the wheel, wheels bays, wheels trains, wheels covers today... And with photoetched elements!
-
That combo box is wonderful, but Eduard made a mistake: the first deco proposed cannot be built "as is" from the box: you have no telescopic visor, and the canopy must have a hole...
...Hard work, because any mistake should have been catastrophic - But I was successful! The visor will be made with Evergreen.
-
Striking details mate :-ok
-
Thank you! But that took me lot of time, more than expected... No more kits for me today...
-
Enjoy weekend my friend :) You do too much!!!
-
You have a difficult task, and you have succeeded! Looks great. :-clap
I like this markings which you choose! ;) :-ok
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Very fine addition!
-
Thank you!
Some progress with the PE parts...
-
Good thing is there is not much of them :)
-
Tiny parts,but nice work! :-clap
-
Thank you! Have continued today; hope to finish with the photoetch this week-end...
-
:-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Primer day today :-green
-
Camouflage will be nice too see .-ok I guess in day or two?
-
Like young birds in their nest!
-
Hope to begin camo before the week-end...
And right Scott, excellent comparrison!
-
Can't wait!! :-jump
-
Little progress on the Republican one
-
Far enough for today ;)
-
Very interesting! :-clap I like!! :-clap
-
After a little break, some painting work on the Republican one
-
Yes mate, yes!!!!! Glad that force is with you :-ok
-
;)
-
I really like the Republican colors!
-
Good paint job mate!! :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Thank you! :)
-
Airbrushing of green paint on both aircrafts. Then I removed the masks on the Republican... Only three minor correction to make with paint.
I usd no masks for the nationalist; that will be needed for the next stage only ;)
-
:-ok
-
Nice job!!!!!! :-clap :-clap
-
Almost here :))
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Aluminium was airbrushed on the nationalist I-16. Some minor corrections needed...
-
That is really going to be a stunning airplane when finished!
-
Nice work, very nice :))
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Exhaust pipes and machineguns are painted; the rudders are glued. I like both I-16's...
-
Me too!!!
-
Nice work mate :)
-
Thank you! ;)
-
Some light weathering on the Republican and painting of other elements of both kits
-
Decal session...
-
:-clap :-clap :-clap

A like this topic!!!!!!!! :-clap :-clap
-
Thank you!
-
Very good and nice work!!
I have my "Rata" waiting for being built........
This inspires me!!
-
:-ok
-
Thank you friends!
-
Excellent, and I am in love :-love with the silver one!
-
Oil wash...
-
What a great look mate :-ok :-clap
-
Excellent, and I am in love :-love with the silver one!
I'm in love with both!! Look really great my friend!! :-clap
-
Thank you!Hope to finish both before the end of november...
-
Yep, they are both great!
-
Thank you Scott!
-
Matt varnish from Pébéo airbrushed, then I've glued the canopies.
-
Landing gear :))
-
Yes... Delicate phase in fact; many elements...
...But I'm confident :)
-
One day job I guess but if you have that day...
-
Cool!! :-clap
-
Thank you!
...Well, both are finished now!
The metal ring over the engine cover is painted with "Agama Metal". It was the first time I used that kind of product on a kit; I must say that using the right technique, that gives stunning result!!!
First, Tamiya tape to isolate the "ring" to be painted from the rest of the engine cover. Then, with a piece of sponge (maintained with tweezers), I've applied the "Steel" metal from Agama. You let dry a few minutes only, then with a Q-tip you lustrate the metal that becomes brilliant with a real metal effect!
The placement of the landing gears was undoubtfully the most difficult stage of that build... With my shaking hands, it was a hard job but with tenacity, I was finally successful.
Well, nice kits. But funny to say that if the "Nationalist" was a pleasure to build, the "Republican" (same mold!!!) was less easy to build: parts broken, fitting not so good than the other... Strange... "Bizarre... Vous avez dit bizarre? Comme c'est bizarre..." (like the famous dialog in an old French film between Louis Jouvet and Michel Simon)
Now, going to other projects...
-
Beautiful!!!!!!!! :-clap :-clap :-clap :-clap
-
Excellent!!!
-
Both are excellent machines! I have a hard time picking between the two for a favorite!
Thanks for the tip on painting the cowling band also.
-
Thank you friends!
