Work on the cooling system here. Both radiators and oil cooler are very nicely detailed and the ducts are also well engineered. I've decided to drop the flaps and radiator outlets on this kit so a small modification was done to each radiator housing by scribing the outlet flaps and repositioning them.

Here are the cowling sections all assembled. This part of the project will be a little tricky since I'm not installing any of the engine parts. Like the Eduard Emil, the engine is used to align everything on the nose of the airplane. A bit of scratchbuilding should give me the support I need.

Yes, open cowling is easy on this kit. The manufacturer molded the upper cowling halves quite thin I should mention, so that either closed or open configuration can be built.

Further progress on this Freidrich, and I still can't get over the fit. I've used a very tiny bit of filler on the wing leading edge seams, oil tank cowling, and on the right side of the gun cover (caused by my error in assembly, not Zvezda's fault). Every other seam is designed to be in exactly the same place as a panel line on the real machine and the fit is so close and perfect! The parts fit so well that the cowl parts could be painted as sub-assemblies. Next will be to glue all these bits together just before gluing them to the firewall of the fuselage. Note also that I've installed a drop-tank mount that I harvested from the Eduard Bf 109E. Both the mount and tank are beautiful and they'll be a nice addition to this model.

Then the horizontal stabilizers and wing were installed and theatre band painted.

I forgot to mention that I've added the tropical intake filter from an old Fujimi or Otaki kit from my spares bin. Also I modified the wheel openings to the round shape used on the F-4 and added some panel lines to the upper wing surfaces.

This is my first Zvezda kit and I place it very high on ease of construction even though it is complete with engine, guns, etc.

Next will be to build up the "power-egg" cowling section, then glosscote.
