Belgian Mirage 5 (Wingman 1/48)
« on: February 02, 2019, 07:14:46 PM »
Wingman Models boxed the Kinetic Mirage IIIE with resin parts and decal sheet for Belgian Mirages 5BA/5BR.
The resin parts are nice but will ask for attention when removing from the carrots : some corrections will be needed.  The 1700L subsonic reservoirs presents lots of little bubbles in the resin at the top of the part, surrounding the fixation to the wing. That will ask for minutious work… Those reservoirs are in two elements ; assembly was OK but a little bit of putty is needed at the junction of the parts.
Decals are made with the help of DACO. DACO is producing many decals for Belgian aircrafts
Actually I don’t know if I will use the decal sheet of the box or the specail Mirage 5 decal sheet (also made by DACO)…
My documentation consists in two excellent books…

I plan to build a Mirage 5BR late version. Trying the fitting pf the clear part in the nose, I constated that the clear part is too large end deforms the plastic cover. So I have cut the clear part into three elements; that's better so doing the cover is not deformed...

Interior was black. More than that if you look at photos of the 5BR, all the cameras  windows seem To be black

The nose looks OK now. I have to repaint in glossy black all the windows. I've put miliput in the interior; that will give some weight and more than that, that will avoid the fact that in the building process some windows to fall out of their emplacement.

For the fuel tanks, I completed the putty with cyano at some locations. Sanding done. But the attachment system to the wing don't fit; I will have to use evergereen and probably miliput too...

I've also looked how the resin "BA" nose would fit: poorly, really poorly... It is a little bit too big...

Actually I'm a little bit deceived by the kit...

One detail- did you clean up this resin with acetone first, then go with filler?

You can make a great glass effect with Vallejo still water. It equalize itself by gravity and you will have perfect glass effect. I use it before for periscopes on AFV models
