I'm got a few days off for holidays so I'm back home and want something to do, but I would like it to be quick and easy,so my choice is Eduard's Albatros D III in 1/48 I got as a price on modeling competetion. I'm building Werner Voss's bird, like it a lot....... So as a first step, looking up in the box to see whats on the sprues and getting in the mood

-
As a first step, painting and assembly of the interior and engine. I over weathered the cockpit a bit,but not much be visible on the end anyway..... By looking the pictures of the original engine Eduard did a good job, I added only the brass pipe on the front, joining the fuselage soon
-
:-jump :-jump :-jump :-jump
-
Now that is the way to build models!
-
:-ok
-
I simply just couldn't let the over weathered cockpit to stay that way so I fixed it, after joining the fuselage and a small amount of putty and sanding the painting started. As always first Gunze surfacer, then the basic wood color,I'm painting it with brush,no need to be perfect even color, if a bit various even better, helps to get more realistic wooden look, wood painted with sponge with burn umber artistic oil paint,, to prevent to continue of the wood pattern I'm painting it in stages, every second panel line, when finish after masking the unpainted to follow..... The wing are started to be painted also, and the first decals are on
-
And the home made propeller, still raw wood without the gloss cote, the center is not perfect but no need for it, it's covered
-
:-eek :-eek :-eek :-obey :-obey :-obey
-
Excellent!!! :-ok
-
Fuselage painted except the rear, and the wings are painted and decals are on. The brown on the wing got a bit too red but I won't change it
-
Wish you to continue with great builds in 2017 and... you have New Year topic in Off Road section ;)
-
Wonderful progress!
-
:-ok
-
Fuselage painted, decals are on, must say these are the best decals from Eduard I ever used, very thin, no need for any chemistry at all, they fit in every panel by them selves, the only backside is you don't have much time to adjust them on the model only few moments and with lots of water, if don't they stick to the surface very very fast and you can't move them anymore, only to try to take it off with a great risk and try again.... Unfortunately I'm travelling early in the morning back to work so I won't be able to finish the model, it will have to wait to the next few days off....
-
Excellent progress :-ok
-
Stunning!!
-
Well done!
-
Thank you friends !
-
Home for the weekend and right back to the workbench :-green
As always I like to experiment on my models so I decided to try out a new thing for me, I'm " playing " with the lights as a first step of weathering, canvas areas are matt, metal semi gloss and the wood is gloss, not sure how much is visible on the photos but in life looks good, I'm satisfied :))
-
Overall look is so good
-
:-ok
-
Yes, excellent appearance!
-
Thank you friends !
I didn't like the Eduard's tail skid so I made a new one from my home made laminated wood, same as propeller which is finished in the meantime
-
Good to have time for this extras ;)
-
Waouw... :-ok
-
Yes!
-
Thank you friend !
Sadly these 3 days off passed too quick....... The seat is done, the belts are made of masking tape and photo-etch left-overs using decals from the box as a quide. I made all the metal details on the fuselage, replace the lost ones and painted them, it's maybe not as real, I painted them in natural metal, they may have been painted but I like it better this way, a bit of artistic freedom this time :)) And the lower wing and tail skid are on, that's it for this time, will continue next time I'm home, now back to work......
-
About metal chipping on seat.. if I am right, it is made of plywood, not metal
-
Yes, that was not on purpose, I fixed it, the seat is wood coated with leather
-
Back home for few days only, little time for modeling, but I had a little time for modeling :-green
First I discovered a disaster, don't know why or how some putty on the front of the fuselage disappeared, but not all, only on two ends..... Didn't wanted to putty, sand and paint the whole nose section again so in my spare parts box I founded some Eduard's placards and put them to mask the gap, not authentic I know but don't really care.......
The tires are painted, after doing some research I found a various tire colors can be found on WW I aircrafts so I made my own mixture, dark grey with some sunny skin tone, fell out really nice, like that color for tire
And the exhaust is drilled out
-
And the MG's, these are Eduard's Brassin for SSW but fits perfectly on Albatross as well, lot to do with very small parts, lots of patient is needed to do this but on the end they look great, next time I will paint them and hope to finish the bird, or get near to finish as much as I can
-
Strange with filler... ghost edition?
-
Very strange indeed, Twilight Zone maybe......
-
LetLetLet Warplanes is possessed :)) hahaha... keep on track mate, all of us have sometimes strange situation without rational explanations
-
Nice way to correct the problem caused by the putty; I like it!
For the tires, WWi aircrafts can have tires of various colors - not black anyway but that can be dark grey, light grey, tan, pistache green or even rose...
-
And home for a few days and some progress on the Albatross
Replaced the too big parts on tail, made from styrene, and the start of the exhaust painting
-
Machine guns completed and the struts placed
-
And finally looks like an Albatross
-
Beauty :-love
-
Great work!
-
Thank you friends !
-
Stunning!

Well friends, here is the latest update, I moved some modeling things to the town I'm working now, among other thing I bring my albtros as well in hope of finishing it. The driver wasn't so " model friendly " and here is the result......
-
Well... maybe some of us like horror movies but this is too much...
-
Aouch. ..
-
Ugh. That is so frustrating......
