I present you what will be my big project for 2011 (that can go until 2012 as I'm not a fast builder), that I will start after february: a serie of fighter airplanes that could have equiped the Belgian Aéronautique Militaire if... if... if... Well, the history is well known.
My project is based on serious sources, essentially the magazines of the Brussels Air Museum, the books over the Renard aircrafts, etc. Really, it was possible that some of those aircrafts have served under Belgian cockades if the aircrafts could have been bought, or if the war have begun in 1941 only...
First of all, the national production: the Renard 38
The Spitfire MK I: it is said that one or even three were bought for tests purposes, but weren't delivered due to the war
The brewster Buffalo, 40 were effectively bought, but first ones delivered after the Belgian reddition
The Curtiss Hawk 75: the Belgians were interrested by that aircraft but priority was given by Curtiss to France, so Belgians opted for the Brewster...
The Grumman Martlet: it is said on Wikipedia that Belgians bought 10 Martlets that were not delivered before Belgian reddition and given to Britain - I've not found other sources...
The Fiat G50: a Belgian commission sent in Italy tried to buy that aircraft but instead, Italy proposed the CR42 that was finally bought
...But the Brussels Air Magazine gived also informations on the fact that Germans could have proposed to Belgium:
...Some of Czech aircrafts, after the annexion of Czechia. No more information, so I've chosen the Avia B.534
...the possibility to buy somme Messerschmitt!!! Again, I have no idea of the type proposed (B? C? D?) but as I own on my stash a 109E3, let's go for this last one!
All those aircrafts will be painted in Belgian colors, with some plausible variants to avoid the monotony...
Rendez-vous end of february!
