Some months back No.1 built an Eduard Tempest V. Thanks to Eduard :-flo and Srecko :-flo I have also started one of these. Not much has gotten done yet but I did trim the pour stubs and other small amount of flash off of the resin cockpit components. Then these got a bath to clean any possible mold release.

I must say that this looks like it will be quite fun to build. The Tempest is HUGE compared to the tiny Bf 109s I've been building and I had to find extra space on the workbench to fit all the parts! :-eek
-
Go forward mate!! :-clap
-
Good luck mate, I know you will enjoy :))
-
These cockpit resin parts are really wonderfully detailed!
-
And make pleasure to build kit :))
-
:-ok
-
The next step was to work with some of the landing gear items, including adding the beautiful photoetched parts. These fit so nicely and really add detail to the gearwells and doors.

That's a work spirit :-clap
-
I especially couldn't believe how wonderful the tailwheel doors are to fabricate. Even the small hemispherical fairing bump is so easy to shape since the PE is designed for it.
-
Cool! :-clap
-
Fine work...
-
Which colours? Luftwaffe colours with yellow tail as flown by Hans Werner Lerche????
Just an idea.........
-
I have thought about the Luftwaffe machine but do any actual photos exist? This would be a great looking paint scheme.
-
Progress so far has been limited to assembling the wing elements and spraying the interior green for cockpit and wheelwells:

This is great progress :))
-
Really great!! :-clap
-
Yes, nice and fast!
-
Thanks, y'all!
This will get bogged down with other duties I have.....but it is really beautiful resin that Eduard has made here. Hopefully some detail painting can be done and then start to assemble the cockpit tub yet this week.
-
I forgot to post photos of the radiator and oil cooler. Here they are after fitting all the parts and temporarily installed in that big duct:

Lovely fit :))
-
And, once again, fine work!!!
-
:-clap :-ok
Go forward mate! :-tri

Some progress is being made on the Tempest, especially in the cockpit area. The resin and PE parts that Eduard provides are simply AWESOME! As a start, here is the instrument panel. There is still some detail painting to accomplish here but I wanted to show off what comes in this kit:

-
I know that feelings when you work with Eduard :))
-
Looks very good!! :-clap
-
Thank you!
Next update--working with more of the PE elements and assembling some of the major cockpit parts. I still have some touching up to do and detail painting but this evening's session is over.

Wonderful :-ok

The next step was to fit the cockpit sidewalls and finish trimming the cockpit tub. The bottom and sides of the tub need some grinding and filing to remove excess material. Especially the bottom of the cockpit floor and the two wheelwell bays need material removed for correct fit, just as No.1 did on his review of this same kit.
At this same time the fuselage halves were joined and the seams corrected. These fit quite well and don't need a lot of work.
Once everything was ready the cockpit tub was inserted into the fuselage and wing attached. The wing root area needed a bit of filler on my kit and this will be the next step, sanding/priming/sanding/etc.

:-ok

Shaped :-clap :-ok

Very good job mate, i like it! :-clap

More painting was attempted last evening. I wanted to get the Sky band and spinner painted straightaway but my very old Humbrol tin failed me! I reckon thirty years is long enough......so I mixed some of this color with white and a camouflage green and commenced spraying. Also the leading edge yellow and black for walkways went on at the same session. Notice that the area in back of the head armor plate is black here. I found a photo of a wrecked Tempest that shows this area in a very dark color rather than the fuselage camouflage. I'm pretty certain it must be black, so black it is on my model:

30 years old paint??? This is great output mate :-ok Sky could be mix from basic colors blue, yellow, black and white.

Some more painting on the Tempest has gotten done, first the lower surfaces:

Then another painting session today after work on the Tempest, Bf 109, and Yak-9:

Busy desk :))

:-ok

Good progress mate! :-clap :-ok

Today I masked the upper surfaces and sprayed the green. When I removed the masking tape several areas had paint lifting off. :-wall :-wall :-wall I thought that the whole model had been properly prepared for painting but this wasn't true. After I brewed another pot of coffee and drank most of it I re-sanded the bad places and very carefully masked and resprayed. The second time worked better:

-
Second time is perfect! And must consider any low tack tape for use...
-
The sad thing is that I used Tamiya tape for the outline and the low-sticky Scotch tape we've been using for the larger areas. However, Eduard's kit parts come with a very smooth, shiny surface and I don't believe I properly scuffed the areas where the paint didn't stick. I used 8000 grit sandpaper to help the primer "bite" the plastic but I must not have sanded quite enough. The only blame I can place for the error is myself--kit, paints, and tape aren't really at fault on this one! At least it was easily corrected.
-
Using of aggressive etching primer look like only solution
-
Yes, and I must admit, after reading your new post, that I didn't prime the entire surface with lacquer-based primer like I should have. I think you've hit on the exact step I missed!
-
Exellent repair work, can't even tell you had any problems! Coffee always helps too :)) :-ok I have had the same similar problem recentely as well with primer lifting, think I will change to a different brand, as apperentely the lacquer primer I am using is not "hot" enough to get a cood bite.

The Tempest and Bf 109G-14 are both nearly finished but better photos will be taken later:

Wonderful red wheel covers ;)

Burning high-octane fuel only! :-evil

Here is the finished Tempest V, this one built in the colors of No. 501 Squadron stationed at Brawell Bay in October of 1944. This airplane has numerous V-1 kills to its credit with various pilots, one being an American, Flying Officer B.F. Miller.

This kit is from the Eduard box except for the landing gear. I elected to use a Scale Aircraft Conversion gear set to enhance the model a small bit.

Another great work mate!!! :-clap :-clap

Nice result, build look great and nice item in your collection :-ok
