Sherman & variants Group Build
« on: January 31, 2012, 09:17:50 PM »
Hi friends,

I open the Group Build with my project: the Sherman T31!

The T31 never attained production; only a few prototypes were built. The goal of that incredible macgine was to destroy the beach defences during landing operations. But production would have come too late...

The base is the Dragon 1/72 M4A3E8(76) Sherman (what a name...  :-green ) and I will use the Retrotracks conversion kit giving the turret with three guns, and some photoetch elements.

I hope to begin the build soon; I will try to finish some aircrafts before to really start that "monster"...

As an aside to No.1's "Crab" variant, my dad and his crew built a couple of these in North Africa in 1943. They used parts of damaged halftracks and other vehicles for the drive, and the engine and transmission of a halftrack was mounted behind the turret to power the flail. Evidently they examined a British Scorpion and adopted their design.

I can't find a kit that suits me here, either, in the land that built the Sherman! I may end up watching this from the sidelines, but it'll still be fun.

Carry on!

Well... I have not progressed on that kit due to a problem: at the time Domi released it, he was looking after casters; and the T-31 was sent to a new one. But the result was not at the level of quality Domi is realising: many, many, many bubbles in the resin...

So I've thought how to find a solution. Before to use miliput, I give a try to my "home-filler" (sprue dissolved in liquid cement). Photos are showing what is the beginning of the work only...
