Warplane at your hometown
« on: March 28, 2007, 10:05:01 PM »
This plane present some years ago proud vehicle for training of the youg students. And one sample is displayed in open, at the kid's play yard in one park in small town in the South of Serbia- Vladicin Han. To regret there is not much of respect for this airplane.

My village backs onto the RAF Station where I work, just inside the front gate we have a Phantom, sorry not a great picture, I will try and find another one soon.
Also at RAF Wyton which is only 6 miles away they have a Canberra PR9  :-tri

engineersas constructed by team of Yugoslav engeeniers Sostaric, Marjanovic and Curcic from the Ikarus Aircraft Factory in Zemun. The first prototype flew in February of 1955. After initial success with new aircraft, complete technical documentation was transferred to the Soko Aircraft factory in Mostar which was assigned to start serial production. Production lasted until 1961. and the total production number of this type of aircraft was 110. It was used in training units of Yugoslav Air force until 1978. when the remaining aircraft's were transferred to the Air clubs for civil use.

Although quite a useful and reliable aircraft, it will be remembered not by it`s military service but by it`s role in many war movies filmed in Yugoslavia during 60’s and 70’s. Because of it`s overall resemblance with Fw 190, it was used in movies to simulate German airplanes. Some of it`s prominent movie roles are surely role in movie „Battle of Neretva“ which was Yugoslav candidate for Oscar, and „Kelly's Heroes“ starring Clint Eastwood.

Are those bombs and missiles next to the aircraft?  :-think

If I'm right, "Kelly's Heroes" is about "private enterprise" during WW2 - taking large amount of German gold from bank in small French village behind front line, with Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland etc? This movie was on cable TV in Belgrade a few weeks ago and I could swear that I saw 522!!! It also performed in old Yugoslav movie called "Partizanska avijacija" meaning Partsan's Airforce about creating resistance in air against German occupation during WW2. 522 and Kraguj was main "actors". This movie has a lot influence on me and my interesting for airplanes.
