Hello,
This is my first time on the forum....I have just joined!
When first presented to the press/public, the Spitfire prototype was painted in a colour close to aquamarine. It was painted by the firm that did the Rolls-Royce cars, with car paint! They prepared it the way they prepared car: calked all panel joints, rubbed it down repeatedly and then gave it several cotes of the colour. After the first flight it was noted that the paint had crackled due to flexing of the metal! After stripping it, the plane was primed and sprayed with aviation paint. The colour was the same but in a different slightly less grennish hue.
Hope this is of some use
Cheers
Vasko
PS I have sample chips of the 2 hues. E-mail me directly at timsah@onetel.com
