Hello friends...
Does anyone have some photos of this particular spitfire and its maiden flight on March 5th 1936...
It should be a version with fuselage painted in some kind of green primer...
Any tips about colors? :-flo

I have one, I have to scan it but it is in Supermarine Seaplane grey.

I will have a look through my files tonight :-wise

Have you seen this site?

Yes Mick I know that page
I am particulary interested in this photo
http://www.k5054.com/images/k5054_priormaiden.jpg
unfortunately it is too small resolution
I am preparing myself to build this kit and the thing is that I am unusre about the color, there are few variations of the colors for this particular spit in this period.
Colors mentioned are the aluminium, grey and that green primer...
Btw, I also have kit of this spit

and planing to make a PR version it should be the first PR spit ever, any aditional info would be great

Are these of any use :-think

Hello,
This is my first time on the forum....I have just joined!
When first presented to the press/public, the Spitfire prototype was painted in a colour close to aquamarine. It was painted by the firm that did the Rolls-Royce cars, with car paint! They prepared it the way they prepared car: calked all panel joints, rubbed it down repeatedly and then gave it several cotes of the colour. After the first flight it was noted that the paint had crackled due to flexing of the metal! After stripping it, the plane was primed and sprayed with aviation paint. The colour was the same but in a different slightly less grennish hue.
Hope this is of some use
Cheers
Vasko
PS I have sample chips of the 2 hues. E-mail me directly at timsah@onetel.com

By the way, the bluish "prototype" in the photo above, is a non flying full scale replica which belonges to our SPITFIRE SOCIETY. We keep it at the Tangmere Museum.
