Hello All,
In reply to Mick's question about Russian Spitfires, there is quite a lot in one of the Red Stars volumes (by the Finnish guys whose names I forget at present). I will see if I can lay my hands on one of them..
PV Chairman.
Thank you
I have some images (obtained from the web) my main interest is, did the Russians use reconnaissance spitfires
I have know found out that the Russians used possibly 11 Spitfire PR.IV's (This was the Type D) I'm the process of confirming this.
The serial numbers that have been listed are'
AB132, AB423, AB427
BP884, BP889, BP891, BP 917, BP923, BP926, BP929
BR658
From the report I have seen (on the web) these aircraft were used on Operations Orater, Tungsten and Source.
At the start (Sep - Nov 43), 3 aircraft were flown 543 Air Reconnaissance Group with RAF pilots. In late 1943 the aircraft were transfered to the 18th Reconnaissance Regiment Nortern Fleet Air Force.
If anyone has any futher information, I would be grateful if they PM me, thanks.
