Dog Sabres in other finishes than Natural Metal/Aluminum Lacquer

Hey guys...

I have the nice Revell AG F-86D Dog Sabre kit in 1/48. I like Natural Metal finishes, but I use acrylics and I still haven't found an acrylic paint that gives a realistic look. Some friends told me that the Silvers in the Vallejo line are very good, but they're kinda hard to find in Brazil.

So, I always try to find attractive paint schemes for the planes I won't risk doing in NMF... In the case of the Sabre Dog, my first option was an interesting Danish plane in overall green... But a guy from Denmark told me they were painted in green only when used as decoys... When in operation, they were left unpainted...

So my other options of camouflaged F-86Ds were Yugoslavia and Greece. Of these two, my preference is for the first and I think I'm in the right place to ask the questions below:

- As I mentioned before, my kit is the German boxing, it comes with the brake-chute housing. One of the few pictures I found show the Yugoslavian birds had it. Is there any other modification necessary to build my kit as an Yugoslavian Dog Sabre?
- The gray/green cammo scheme: was it wrap-around style or a third color/shade was used on the undersurfaces?
- Can someone help me with accurate cammo schemes and color references?
- The stencils: were they in English?
- Which decal sets do you recommend me?

Just quick reply on this- see image in attach and you will see that bottom is painted in lighter color. I also have manual for this plane but to my horror I have borrow this to 'friend' who forget to return it to me for a few years. As you see on image, plane is shown with deployed parachute and maybe this detail could be interesting to build. By the way- Greece have also interesting samples and maybe better to build their samples. For the Yugoslav sample you have this decal manufacturer:

Those decals, are not bad but they are good only for serial number, colours on rondels and flag are not accurate...

As I told you shmenezes- better to work Greece version, no good product to support possible Yugoslav build.

I'll take another look at the Greek bird... But I'd really like to do one in gray/green cammo... I already have lots of models that will be finished with the SEA scheme...

Well, maybe there could be option to make some combination of the stencils as well combine stars and roundels. I have some material regard to the Yugoslav machines and their camouflaged samples. But only if find good solutions for national insignia.

Dude, I have a nice set of 1/48 Yugoslavian national insignia. But it's one chance in a million that they're the right size, they're for an Il-2...

As for the stencils, I would take the risk and use the kit's decals... Almost no one will take the trouble of reading letters 0,3 mm high to check if they are in the right language...

I will take search on my files and try to find material for you I know that long time ago I have make some drawings of this machine but also some color schemes... just a little time please

I can wait and so does the kit... It's in the box since 2005 or so...

I have almost 30 kits in various stages and many of them are closer to be finished than the Dog Sabre, no hurry...
