MiG-19S spy plane kill
« on: March 10, 2018, 07:56:03 AM »
March 10, 1964, during a training exercise gsvg near the town of Magdeburg (GDR) MiG-19 was shot down an American spy plane.

During maneuvers, an American reconnaissance RB-66B tried to break to the desired object, using the employment of the air force of the GDR and the USSR. However, captain F. M. Zinoviev from the 33rd fighter wing, which operated the MiG-19S, managed to intercept the spy plane and fire its guns. Soon the offender brought two MiG-19 of the 35 IAP. At one of planes guns jammed, and the second successfully attacked the violator by uncontrollable rockets and guns. Scout was shot down.

There were so many reconnaissance flights during that time that I'm surprised that more combats didn't happen. A very turbulent time in history, and really not so long ago!

My guess is there is more combat but still documents are hidden. One of mission held in late '40 is when a number of B-29 bombed one Soviet naval base, without lose

Yes, a lot of what happened in that time is still secret, it seems. I met a man who flew on RB-47s during the cold war and he would never talk about some of the places they flew.
