This very interesting photo present F3F with chrome yellow propellers. Image is from Library if Congress Archive and it is rare image of this plane in color.

I think it might be a trick of the light. Propellers on Navy a/c were usually their natural colour on the front face, with (sometimes) maroon on the rear face. The tips were blue, yellow, and red.

I will try to get a text written by Dana Bell. it is entry in the standard protection on the NAVAL planes from mid '30. But just a little time to get where I put document. It will be interesting for the modelers as well for the illustrators.

Spar varnish was applied to the prop as protection giving them a slight yellow-brown color. A tinted clear would work on a model. AFAIK the USAAF used maroon for about 2/3'ds of the back of the prop, but I haven't seen anything on this for Navy aircraft. Others may know more.
