Racer Spitfire XVI
This Weekend Edition of the Spitfire XVI is among the Eduard releases of this kit in 1/48 scale. The Spitfire XVI featured a Merlin 266 which was the Merlin 66 built under license in the USA by the Packard Motor Company. All of the Spitfire XVI featured clipped wings and most of them had the all round view cockpit canopy and cut-down rear fuselage. Eduard represent this kit greatly.
The product presented here has the stock code 84141 and since it comes asĀ a Weekend Edition, this means you have no protective masks, etched parts and large decal sheet, even the instruction are simply printed on lower quality paper. Build it easy and fast, similar as their Spitfire Mk. IX. Since there are no etched parts, the build goes even faster. Interesting detail is that seat belts are given as water slide decals and they work their job perfectly.
Decals cover two airplanes and both are from races. My choice is to do the all metal version. Decals are standard RAF, not as colorful as usually see on racer planes. The final result is one nice metal finished plane and it jumps out from standard worn out camouflaged machine. I would gladly recommend this product and I grant thanks to Eduard for the sample product.
