Silver Spitfire at Lelystad
Early August the Spitfire Mk. IX G-IRTY started for a trip around the world with Pilatus PC-12 OY-THP a support aircraft. On Monday 2 December they arrived at Lelystad Airport. The two aircraft were parked on the premises of the Aviodrome Aviation Museum. On Tuesday 3 December both planes made a short formation flight over the Netherlands. Today, Wednesday 4 December, both aircraft will be flown back to London to finish their world trip. G-IRTY was in fact back at Aviodrome.
When the museum was still located at Schiphol Airport the Aviodome Museum as it was called by that time made a complete restoration of this plane in Dutch Air Force colors. Later it was sold to the UK and finally used for its around the world flight in brightly polished aluminium scheme.
