Privateer

With its content and size, book Convair PB4Y-2/P4Y-2 Privateer can be for sure called Privateer Bible. Published in Naval Fighter series, it is one more jewel from this series. Interesting that in general there is not much books about this type what is so surprising as well it play so important role in naval warfare and patrol mission in WW2. United States did not have much in its fleet at the outbreak of WW2 and Pearl Harbor attack wipe of many of patrol bomber types. Service in this role have seen several types, and first type to give strength was Privateer. It is direct development of well known Liberator bomber and main feature was single vertical tail. This type have long patrol range, great war load and important to note it is first US type to operationally use guided bomb.

Book have all you need and it start with excellent technical chapter, backed with excellent diagrams, drawings and frame diagrams, with text cover development and technical data. There is listing of operational units, test units with unit service history. This includes unit badges but also many beautiful pin up arts, which was so popular on this type. Operational history of Privateer continued also after the WW2 and this book also cover that. Civil operators are last users of Privateer, mostly as cargo plane. Modelers are not forgotten and last pages are dedicated to plastic kits regarding to this type.
