Yak-3 Eduard weekend kit
Subjects like the Yak-3 are never enough so I am happy with the Eduard update of their kit production. Their release is Yak-3 weekend edition with a really nice choice of decals for it. The Kit is in 1/48 scale with stock number 8457.
This kit has very nice art on the box which shows a sample machine flown by Lt. Semyon Ivanovic Rogovoi from 64 GVIAP. Inside the box are the simplified instructions for kit assembly and painting, two fret of grey plastic and one with transparent plastic and an excellent printed decals sheet. It maybe looks like a small amount of plastic but there is just enough material for the build. Parts fit perfectly together and as the kit has not many parts, the build goes really fast. An interesting detail is that the instrument panel and seat belts are provided as decals and it gives good effect to the kit.
I did not find any issues during the build. I use filler over join line just to prevent some possible surface imperfection, in general, there is no need for filler. Interior is all in grey color with details in another color, like seat, pilot stick and so on. From the very start to the stage ‘ready for paint’, takes just one day. Note that pilot seat fabric can also be in light blue grey color.
Final choice was to finish the kit in paints and markings as Lt. Semyon Ivanovic Rogovoi’s machine. I have found few photos of his plane and it is a very clean machine. Maybe newly delivered at the time the photos were taken but except for the exhaust stain and tire dirt, there is no real need to make it dirty.
My impression of this kit is entirely positive. Very easy to build, with all details included, suitable for beginners as well experienced, good markings options, this kit is a really welcome arrival. Thanks to Eduard for the sample product and you can find your sample here.
