[dropcap]I[/dropcap]dea of the jet propelled flight was not new and before the WW1 was made first prototypes of aircraft with jet engine. Between the wars there was much of research done in the jet propulsion research but the turbulent political and military situation was the power burst to give more attention to this new way of the flight. Development of such machine mean more effort to be used in development of technology, materials important to solve some difficulties of the jet propulsion. In the moment when the first jet flights was made, high authorities still did not completely understand value of the new power but no matter of that, further development was continued in this direction. And this resulted that in WW2 was for the first time introduced jet combat aircrafts which bring revolution and present milestone in the development of the aviation at all.

Horst Serie published by Aero Journal present very good series of publication and with its compact content bring much value to the readers. Well known researcher and author Jean Claude-Mermet is the author of the no.8 of Horst serie which full title is Encyclopedie des Jets de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale Tome 1.
